The Ideal Science/Environmental Project

A fully functioning, properly equipped vermicomposting bin makes an excellent classroom science or enironmental project. You can teach your students that worms, like other animals, need a comfortable place to live and food to nourish them; in return they'll produce SUPER SOIL and concentrated liquid plant food. All Things Organic has many different styles of bins to choose from, and all the red worms and bedding your class needs to get started.

Kid-Friendly Composting

Because of its simple design and easy, kid-friendly low maintenance, worm composting is an excellent way for kids to learn about recycling and about micro and macro enironmental health. Depending on your students' grade level, different text books are also available to supplement the learning process.

Harvesting Your Super Soil

When your classroom bin is full or when four to six months of composting time has elapsed, you and your students will discover the rich finished soil on the bottom of the bin; on the very top you will find food, bedding and worms, all of which you should return to the bin to re-start the composting process. The nutrient-rich SUPER SOIL has been created by worm castings, and can be added to the soil of indoor plants or to outdoor gardens. All bins available from All Things Organic are specially designed to enable you to extract the super-concentrated liquid plant food. Your students can package the harvested SUPER SOIL and concentrated plant food and sell it as an additional fund-raising project.

Funding is Available

Let All Things Organic help you discover new sources of funding for your classroom's worm composting project, from such organizations as Canada Trust's "Friends of the Environment" program, the Shell Foundation and the Healthy Schools Initiative.
